Peer Review Policy

International Journal of Modern Microbiology (IJMMB)
P-ISSN: 3117-5937 | E-ISSN: 3117-5945

The International Journal of Modern Microbiology (IJMMB) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic quality, scientific rigor, and research integrity through a structured and transparent peer review process. The journal follows internationally recognized scholarly publishing practices to ensure that all published research meets standards of originality, relevance, and scientific contribution in microbiology and life sciences.

IJMMB adopts a Double-Blind Peer Review system, ensuring an unbiased and objective evaluation of manuscripts based solely on academic merit.

Double-Blind Peer Review

Under the double-blind review model:

  • The identities of authors are concealed from reviewers
  • The identities of reviewers are concealed from authors

This approach ensures fairness and eliminates bias related to institutional affiliation, nationality, gender, or academic reputation.

Purpose of Peer Review

The peer review process is essential to:

  • Ensure the quality and credibility of research
  • Improve clarity, accuracy, and scientific validity
  • Maintain the integrity of the academic record
  • Support the advancement of microbiological sciences

Manuscript Evaluation Process

All submitted manuscripts undergo the following stages:

1. Initial Editorial Assessment

Upon submission, manuscripts are evaluated by the Editorial Office and Editor-in-Chief to ensure that they:

  • Fall within the scope of microbiology and related disciplines
  • Meet formatting and submission guidelines
  • Comply with ethical and publication policies
  • Pass initial plagiarism screening

Manuscripts failing to meet these criteria may be rejected or returned for correction before review.

2. Plagiarism Screening

All submissions are checked using plagiarism detection tools to verify originality.

  • Manuscripts with high similarity or plagiarism will be rejected
  • Actions are taken according to the journal’s Plagiarism Policy

3. External Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the initial stage are sent to at least two independent experts in the relevant field of microbiology or life sciences.

  • Reviewers are selected based on expertise and research experience
  • Additional reviewers may be assigned if required

4. Reviewer Evaluation Criteria

Reviewers assess manuscripts based on:

  • Originality and novelty of the research
  • Scientific and technical quality
  • Methodological accuracy and reproducibility
  • Relevance to microbiology and journal scope
  • Clarity, structure, and presentation
  • Contribution to scientific knowledge

Detailed feedback is provided to assist both authors and editors.

5. Editorial Decision

Based on reviewer comments and editorial evaluation, the Editor-in-Chief will make one of the following decisions:

  • Accept the manuscript
  • Accept with minor revisions
  • Major revisions required (resubmission)
  • Reject the manuscript

The final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief.

Review Timeframe

IJMMB aims to complete the peer review process within 1 to 3 weeks from submission.

However, the timeline may vary depending on:

  • Reviewer availability
  • Complexity of the manuscript
  • Number of revision rounds required

Confidentiality

  • All submitted manuscripts are treated as confidential
  • Editors and reviewers must not disclose manuscript details
  • Unpublished data must not be used for personal research

Ethical Considerations

IJMMB adheres to international ethical standards in scholarly publishing.

If any of the following are detected:

  • Plagiarism
  • Duplicate submission
  • Data fabrication or falsification
  • Ethical misconduct

The manuscript will be investigated, and actions such as rejection, correction, or retraction will be taken.
